ABOUT THE ARTIST

Marta Luz Gutiérrez was born in 1961 in Medellín, Colombia, the fifth of eight children in a traditional family. She was raised in the company of an endless stream of friends and family in an historic house surrounded by a tropical garden inhabited by cats, dogs, parrots and one single monkey.

Marta studied architecture at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín where she received a BA. She later studied painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and The Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. where she completed her BFA degree.

A painter as well as a furniture designer, Marta has worked in many media. Marta has exhibited in group show in galleries and museums in Colombia, the United States and Spain including:
